Eosinophils Express a Functional Receptor for Interferon

چکیده
Recent reports describe the beneficial use of alpha interferon (IFNa) for the treatment of idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) unresponsive to conventional therapy. A clinical improvement associated with a rapid decrease of peripheral blood eosinophilia suggested possible direct effects of IFNa on eosinophils through the presence of lFNa receptors (IFNaR). Reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and cytochemistry were used respectively to detect the presence and define the distribution of IFNaR on enriched eosinophil preparations purified from blood cells. IFNaR was found on eosinophils collected from patients

2B4 (CD244) is expressed and functional on human eosinophils.
Eosinophils are present in parasitic, allergic, various immunological, and malignant disorders as well as in a variety of idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndromes. However, their exact role in some of these conditions remains elusive. They can be activated both in vivo and in vitro by various agonists, such as Igs, lipid mediators, and cytokines. By phenotyping the surface of the eosinophils, it ...
متن کاملHuman eosinophils constitutively express a functional interleukin-4 receptor: interleukin-4 -induced priming of chemotactic responses and induction of PI-3 kinase activity.
Similar to interleukin-3 (IL-3), IL-5, and granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), IL-4 can be secreted by several cell types involved in allergic inflammatory reactions, and therefore can affect eosinophil function similarly. In this study, we investigated the presence of an IL-4 receptor (IL-4R) on human eosinophils. When two different monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against t...
متن کاملA Functional γδTCR/CD3 Complex Distinct from γδT Cells Is Expressed by Human Eosinophils
BACKGROUND Eosinophils are effector cells during parasitic infections and allergic responses. However, their contribution to innate immunity has been only recently unravelled. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Here we show that human eosinophils express CD3 and gammadelta T Cell Receptor (TCR) but not alphabeta TCR. Surface expression of gammadeltaTCR/CD3 is heterogeneous between eosinophil dono...
متن کاملDoes IgE bind to and activate eosinophils from patients with allergy?
Human eosinophils have been reported to express both the mRNA and protein for the high affinity IgE receptor (FcepsilonRI); it is speculated that this receptor plays a role in eosinophil mediator release in allergic diseases. However, questions still remain. How much of the FcepsilonRI protein is actually expressed on the cell surface of the eosinophil? If they are present, are these IgE recept...
متن کاملHeterogeneity of expression of IgA receptors by human, mouse, and rat eosinophils.
IgA is the most abundant class of Abs at mucosal surfaces where eosinophils carry out many of their effector functions. Most of the known IgA-mediated functions require interactions with IgA receptors, six of which have been identified in humans. These include the IgA FcR FcalphaRI/CD89 and the receptor for the secretory component, already identified on human eosinophils, the polymeric IgR, the...
